Hotstar Special’s latest web series ‘City of Dreams’ which is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor is based on a political story as suggested by the trailer. A prominent Mumbai politician faces an assassination attempt, which leads to a rift between his two children for taking over his position. The trailer clearly shows a war like situation ensuing between the Brother-Sister duo which naturally makes the viewer think about India’s current political scenario.
India’s grand old political party i.e. the Congress party has now Sonia Gandhi’s son as its president, whereas Sonia’s daughter Priyanka Vadra has been given only a secretarial position during this election campaign. If rumours are to be believed there’s a cold war going on between the siblings.
A senior congress leader approached the Election Commission to ban the show as it sets a wrong precedent among the voters. However, after watching all the episodes of the series, the Election Commission rejected the Congress leader’s request of banning the show.
The Election Commission clearly said that the although the show has characters and plot similar to the current political scenario but it cannot be denied that the characters in the show are smarter than the politicians they have been assumed playing the role of.
The Fauxy spoke to Chief Election Commissioner, Sunil Arora, who binge watched the web series City Of Dreams and also tweeted about it, asking his followers to watch it. Sunil Arora says that the trailer has uncanny similarities with the Congress party but if you watch the web series you get a completely different story where the characters are indeed really smart.
