Wayanad, a district of the state of Kerala was recently in news after Congress President Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination from the same for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The city is making the news once again but this time for all the good reasons. UNESCO has declared Wayanad the greenest city of the world.
Soon after UNESCO’s declaration, political parties started a heated debate on it and the opposition gave full credit to Rahul Gandhi, who after filing his nomination held a roadshow along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi to greet the voters of Wayanad. During Rahul Gandhi’s roadshow the city turned completely green due to the big sized green flags held by his supporters which also featured a star and a crescent on them, thus giving out a message of Green Peace. The flags belonged to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
After thanking the people of Wayanad and the authorities at UNESCO, Rahul Gandhi vowed that if congress wins then every city of India will be able to contest for the greenest city award and promised that maximum entries in the competition will be from India.
