On Sunday, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal through a series of tweets tried to address the concern of restaurant industry which is badly hit due to Zomato’s exclusive discount offer, Zomato Gold.
Reportedly, Zomato Gold was extended to a limited number of restaurant owners but seeing the profit, Zomato didn’t stick to it and allegedly made money by giving Zomato gold membership to many. Unable to sustain such deep discounting, The National Restaurant Association Of India decided to logout from these discounts and soon it became a nation-wide campaign – ‘log out campaign’.
Zomato CEO, Deepinder Goyal, later asked restaurant owners not to run such campaign and rather focus on reducing the operating cost. Soon after his suggestion, the National Restaurant Association Of India released a statement asking all restaurant owners to ensure only veg food gets delivered in veg-order as only that can reduce the operating cost by at least 30%.
However, the implementation of the same will take some time and the result will be evident only after a week time. The habit of delivering non-veg inside a veg order is ingrained so deep inside the Zomato network that it will take a while to kick it out.
