On Wednesday, June 9, a special court in a breakthrough single-bench judgment gave a landmark ruling against a politician who was accused of creating caste based division in the society after the encounter of an upper caste gangster.
In its landmark judgement, the special court sentenced the politician to 10 years of BJP. The court said “The only way one can be absolved of all one’s crime is by serving the punishment, however, in case of politicians there’s one more option – join BJP.”
But what’s most noteworthy about this case – As per section 153A in The Indian Penal Code, anyone promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, caste etc is liable to be punished with the imprisonment. However it’s applicable for only living people. Politicians who are usually dead (morally) are free from any such charges/punishments.
