Income Tax department continued carrying out raids on the third consecutive day today at the Bhopal residence of Ashwin Sharma, an associate of Praveen Kakkar who is OSD to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath. So far the Income Tax department has obtained unaccounted cash of about Rs 281 crore through various persons by exposing a widespread and well-organised racket of unaccounted cash transactions.
CM Kamalnath has called it a political vendetta and low level politics by Modi government. CM Kamalnath in a rally said that the money was meant for funding Nyay scheme. Nyay is a new scheme proposed and promised by the Congress party in its manifesto which promises to give ₹72,000 per annum to bottom 20% of the economically weaker sections of the society. Kamalnath also accused Modi government of being anti-poor for seizing the money meant for poor.
One of the Congress leaders also said that the money was kept aside for farm loan waivers which is currently on hold due to Model code of conduct.
