After facing severe backlash on the internet, the government has softened its stance on the Sanchar Saathi app. It is now allowing a delete option for the app and may instead rely on Mark Zuckerberg to access people’s private data.
Reportedly, memes and public outrage on social media forced the government to ease its position on the Sanchar Saathi app, which was earlier made mandatory for phone manufacturers to install by default. However, the government is now likely to sign a deal with Mark Zuckerberg, who already has access to users’ data via WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
Speaking to The Fauxy, a government official said, “People have no problem when social media apps can read their intimate chats, but when we want to read them, it’s suddenly a problem. Antinationals everywhere.”
Currently, both the government and Mark Zuckerberg are reportedly laughing while reading your one-sided WhatsApp texts to your crush.
