To shield the economy from the negative impact of the recent surge in crude oil prices, India is purchasing petrol at discounted price from Russia, which is facing sanctions and global backlash due to the Ukraine conflict. But now Modi govt is facing backlash from the opposition.
Reportedly, India’s import of crude oil from Russia in March this year is nearly four times higher when compared with the corresponding period of last year. Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi has attacked Modi and its government for buying petrol from Russia and not from Indians like Adani and Ambani.
“What happened to Atma Nirbhar Bharat? Why is Modi not buying petrol from Adani and Ambani?” said Rahul Gandhi addressing a press conference
Some Congress workers have claimed that petrol from Russia gives lower mileage and their bikes and cars take longer than usual to start with Russia’s petrol. Workers have also talked about petrol price in Russia and petrol price in India.
Sources suggest that Congress leaders are planning to organise a nation-wide protest in support of Adani and Ambani to force Modi govt to buy petrol from them.
