Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is on a two-day visit of Srilanka. The visit was his maiden visit to the island nation after becoming prime minister in 2018. Imran Khan is holding delegation-level meetings with Srilankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa. During the meetings, Imran Khan asked PM Mahinda to invest in Pakistan and donate atleast $ 100 million.
Reportedly, Imran Khan wanted to raise $ 1 Billion from Srilanka, but due to ongoing economic crisis emergency in Srilanka, Imran Khan has reduced the amount significantly.
“Pakistan has always had a cooperative attitude towards Sri Lanka and the two countries have rendered mutual diplomatic assistance whenever needed during testing times. Therefore we ask $ 100 million” said Pakistan PM during his meeting with Srilankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Imran Khan also said that due to economic sanctions that Pakistan has imposed on Russia, Pakistan is not in position to raise funds from Russia, which is a good ally of Pakistan.
Srilankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa said something to Pakistan PM Imran Khan in his native language after which Imran Khan has decided to cut short his trip and return to Pakistan. Details awaited.
