Every year during Ganesh Chaturthi, the reports of Lord Ganesha’s idol drinking milk offering start surfacing from across the nation. In the Hindu religion, it is a custom to feed milk and modaks to Lord Ganesha as a part of the puja celebrations. However this year, due to rising intolerance, the deity refused to consume any milk.
Huge crowds of people were queuing outside a renowned Ganesh temple in Mumbai when the news broke. The news was spread like wildfire and several other devotees reported similar incidents from temples across the country. Nobody was able to explain why the Ganesha deity was not drinking milk.
“I suspect it has to do with rising intolerance. Like any of us, the Gods too experience some human flaws and Lactose Intolerance is one of them,” said a 100-year-old priest at the temple.
We reached a temple to witness the surreal with our own eyes.
“I did it myself. I did it thrice. He did not drink the milk at all! I think he didn’t just deny drinking milk, I think it is God’s way of denying his existence!” said Stalin. He recognizes himself as an atheist.
“The rising intolerance in the country has reached such levels that even deities are recognising it,” said Bhasker, a Bollywood movie side-kick.
