Amidst the Sabarimala protests, when the country is already agitated enough with the interference of judiciary, the court has dropped another bomb that could lead to protests among the middle class and upper-middle class, who frequently travel in flights.
On Sunday, the Supreme court banned women from entering the middle seating area of flights, citing safety issues and mostly owing to the rising #MeToo cases onboard.
In a 21-page long notification, the court has mandated that no middle seats can be allotted to female travellers effective immediately until further intimation.
The judges pointed out how it would be massively uncomfortable for a woman sitting in a middle seat as she may be surrounded by not one but two pieces of trash, i.e. men.
However, some feel that the decision, in fact, went in favour of men who don’t wish to get seated in the middle and prefer a window or an aisle seating because many extra ‘woke’ feminist women brought the equality quotient in this judgement too and ended up queuing for hours at airports to get a middle seat.
“Look first things first, who the hell is Supreme Court to decide that women cannot sit in the middle seat? Why should men be allowed to sit in the middle seat – so that they can enjoy both the view of clouds and the Air hostess? What about our enjoyment? Why should guys have all the fun? I am gonna book all the middle seats of this upcoming flight. Just wait and watch!” said a woman who was in the queue for a boarding pass at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
