After India, Vodafone Plans to Shut its Operation in Russia

Companies have been under pressure to act as Russian violence against civilians has escalated. Dozens of well-known firms including Netflix and McDonalds have already suspended sales or stopped providing services in Russia amid severe sanctions imposed by Western allies. British multinational telecommunications company Vodafone is also following the suit.

Earlier Vodafone had shut its operation in India for unknown reasons. People of Russia were surprised to know that all this while Vodafone was operational there.

Vodafone had shut its operation in India a few years back, however, the company hasn’t removed its towers and networks in case it wants to restore the service. When Vodafone shut down it service in India, its users took more than a week to realise it.

We wanted to communicate to the people of Russia about closing our services but didn’t get the network to do so. Hence, it’s an abrupt closing of services.” told a Vodafone Russia representative to The Fauxy.

The Fauxy has been reaching height in its reporting. Earlier The Fauxy climbed a mountain to interview a student who himself had climbed a mountain to  attend online classes on Vodafone network.
