India continues to witness a dip in Covid cases, in contrast to its neighbour, China, some states have decided to do away with several restrictions that were placed during the first phase, including the mask mandates.  However, India witnessed the first fatality after lifting the mask mandate on Sunday.

In a bizarre and unfortunate incident a man died after one of his relatives removed his oxygen mask saying that government has lifted the mask restriction.

64-year-old, Rahman was on oxygen support after he had minor heart surgery and was recovering well according to doctors at Lalavati Hospital but he succumbed to low oxygen level after one of his over enthusiastic relatives removed the oxygen mask.

Abdul, 41, who had removed the mask defended himself saying government has lifted all the mask restrictions but it didn’t say anything specifically about Covid mask. Abdul has been arrested under section 304A of Indian Penal Code for criminal negligence.

Abdul’s lawyer has also made government a party to crime and has asked the court to summon government for not clarifying that revoking mask restriction doesn’t include Oxygen masks of patients. Details on this is awaited.
