For the first time, the government, under the ambit of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, has brought in detailed guidelines for digital content on both digital media and Over The Top (OTT) platforms. However, the guidelines aren’t enough to discourage to OTT players to not show content which hurt religious sentiments of the majority.
After apologising for Tandav, OTT platform Amazon Prime Video has come up with an unique idea of showing apology in anticipation along with the general disclaimer. Reportedly, Netflix too has joined Amazon Prime Video’s initiative.
“Look we can’t make shows/series without hurting the sentiments of majority, they give us free promotion we can’t afford to lose such a fantastic marketing strategy. We would rather apologise in advance” Said the marketing head of Amazon Prime Videos
