Navjot Singh Sidhu beaten up by cell inmates after he says ‘thoko thoko’
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu today surrendered, a day after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year in jail in a road-rage incident in which a man was killed 34 years ago. Sidhu was taken to the Ludhiyana Central Jail jail at around 10:10 AM today.
Latest updates from the jail suggest that Navjot Singh Sidhu was beaten up by the cell inmates after Sidhu said thoko thoko upon entering the cell.
Later Sidhu clarified that by thoko thoko he means applause and not literally beating after which Sidhu was provided safety.
While it is miserable for anyone to be behind the bars, Sidhu has chosen to make the best of his time in jail. Navjot Singh Sidhu has decided to utilized his time to write shayari (couplets) while being in prison, which will later be released in the form of a book. “I will write shayaris. And I will release the book, – thoko–thoko” told Navjot Singh Sidhu to The Fauxy.
However, the jailers and Sidhu’s lawyer are worried that Sidhu’s behaviour and shayaris might work adversely for him and his jail term could extended if judges read the shayaris.
