Gurgaon: In a major setback for Snapchat, a 24-year-old lawyer has filed a case against the multimedia messaging app for cheating and fraud. Recently, Snapchat introduced a baby filter that alters photos with an anti-ageing effect, thus reminding people of their childhood. However, the output of the filter does not live up to the company’s claims.

Vivek Malhotra, the petitioner, submitted that how none of his baby filter pics was close to what he used to look like during his childhood. He attached pictures from his childhood in the petition and also added his admit card from Xth class board exams which has his photo signed and verified by a gazetted officer.

Vivek was pushed to take this extreme step when his Facebook friends uploaded their real childhood pics and Snapchat baby filter pics. Almost all his friends had a striking similarity between their Snapchat and real childhood pictures. Vivek started to feel rather left out, hurt and disillusioned with his life. It was then when he decided to teach Snapchat a lesson.

The Fauxy approached Snapchat but the company’s officials refused to comment on the issue citing that the case was now subjudice. However, sources say that Snapchat is investigating Vivek’s life to understand if he had gone through an accident or plastic surgery that might have caused the difference. If any such event uncovers, it will definitely make Snapchat’s case stronger in front of the Supreme Court.
