Lali Calls Auto-Rickshaw Drivers Meet After Kejriwal Announces Free Metro & DTC Rides For Women
An announcement by Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that he is planning to provide free metro and DTC bus rides for women came out as a rather shocking piece of news for the city auto-rickshaw drivers. A survey revealed that most auto-drivers are expecting a significant decline in their earnings and a major portion is even fearing unemployment to be a consequential effect of this decision.
Soon after Kejriwal made the announcement, city’s auto-rickshaw drivers under the leadership of Lali called on a meeting of the Auto-rickshaw drivers’ union to decide upon their further course of action. Lali, an auto driver himself, is infamous for slapping Kejriwal when he felt betrayed by the CM. We can only hope that the future course of action by his union remains rather non-violent.
Auto-rikshaw drivers aren’t the only people affected by the announcement. The news of the auto-rickshaw driver meet has reportedly sent a chill down Kejriwal’s spine and he has refused to get out of his house till the Central Government increases his security fearing that Lali might strike again.
