Greta Thunberg skips Lohri event

13 January marks the day of Punjabi festival Lohri which is celebrated primarily in Punjab. The festival commemorates the end of winter season and to welcome longer days.
Many people celebrate this festival by organizing a bonfire and sit around it and sing various songs and eat various types of sweets. One of the famous song that is sung during this festival is ‘Sundar Mundariye’ which has its own significance for the festival.
Punjabi community in Chicago, USA organized a Lohri festival in which they also invited the environment activist Greta Thunberg. Many sources including The Fauxy reporter said that Greta was initially very excited to explore the Punjabi festival.
But as soon as she got the news of bonfire that is conducted during the celebrations of this festival she got furious and said to her management that “How dare you?” and she immediately decided to skip the event which left the Punjabi community infuriated. She was also of the view that bonfires can cause bushfires and take a wild shape just like what happened in Australia. She is in fact not even lighting a matchstick nowadays.
