On Friday, Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from all posts of the party, including the primary leadership. Ghulam Nabi Azad sent a five-page note to party interim president Sonia Gandhi where he recounted his long association with the party.
In his detailed resignation letter, Ghulam Nabi Azad wrote that the situation in the Congress party has reached a point of ‘no return’ and feels relieved by resigning. Reportedly, Ghulam Nabi Azad also hinted that he will drop his first name to avoid contradiction in his full name and as a symbol of not being associated with the oldest political party of India, Congress.
“From now own please refer to me as Azad Nabi Azad” reads the last line of his resignation letter. Details on this is awaited.
Speaking to The Fauxy, Ghulam Nabi Azad said “India is celebrating its 75th Independence, and I felt like I am a Ghulam, hence, I decided to drop the name”.
