Doctor Leaves iPhone In Patient’s Abdomen; Patient Arrested For Theft

Delhi: An on-call intern surgeon, Rohit Verma, left his iPhone inside a woman’s abdomen after performing a C-section this Friday. Verma was hooked to his phone and was apparently consulting a YouTube tutorial all throughout. Smita Patel claims the iPhone fell inside her when the surgeon jumped in joy after successfully completing the surgery through a YouTube video.

The 29-year-old, Smita was later arrested for stealing the surgeon’s iPhone. Just before completing the discharge formalities, surgeon Rohit realised that his newly bought iPhone X was nowhere to be found. It was iPhone’s “Find My iPhone” app that helped save Rohit’s day and his remaining kidney.

Rohit and the other surgeon involved demanded double the compensation for the surgery as they had to perform a near similar surgery again in order to get Rohit’s iPhone back. Currently it is not clear whether Smita’s health insurance or Rohit’s theft insurance would cover the case or not, but if sources are to be trusted, the hospital authorities have approached Rohit with a settlement offer.

It’s not the first case where a patient has stolen the phone of a doctor who was only trying to save their life. In a case in London, a patient stole the doctor’s scissors and continued to keep it in her belly not returning it to him even months after the surgery.

“What’s wrong with these people? Absolutely no integrity! Today she hid my iPhone in her abdomen tomorrow she can hide an entire X-ray machine in gone unchecked. I hope police takes the strictest action against her!” said the furious Rohit.
