On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with cabinet ministers over the rising fuel prices. The meeting ended with a good note and government announced a ₹2.5 cut in excise duty and also requested states to reduce the fuel price. BJP ruled states complied, thus effectively enabling the petrol price to go down by almost ₹5.
While people called it a big relief, Congress was seen a little upset and called the government’s decision a tactic to divert attention. Soon after the government announced the fuel price cut, Congress spokesperson Surjewala addressed the media and said that the fuel price cut by the central government is nothing but a tactic to divert attention from rising fuel prices. He further said that govt has no real intent of reducing the fuel price and if it was so, then the fuel price wouldn’t have reached the current levels.
