Italy: Marksfield, a bishop at a church in Italy, has voluntarily relieved himself from all his duties soon after he was diagnosed with erectile dysfunction. Although Pope Francis could not understand the connection between the bishop’s responsibilities and the disease he has accepted the resignation, assuming that it is because Marksfield wishes to take care of his health.
Almost a week later, a delegation of global church leaders had a meeting with the Pope behind closed doors (without nuns this time) over the increasing cases of sexual allegations against bishops.
Marksfield isn’t the only Catholic priest who has resigned recently, but many bishops who have been alleged of sexually harassing Nuns and children were forced to submit their resignations too. However, Markfield’s reason for quitting is totally bizarre.
“He has lost the connection to the Almighty with this disease. He who cannot arise himself, how will he arouse the public?” said the Bishop who replaced Marksfield.
