Owing to a thumb injury, the Indian opener Dhawan is out from the team for the World-Cup 2019 tournament and wicket-keeper cum batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to replace him. While Pant is a fine cricketer, it may surprise you that it’s not his cricketing skills that got him to be in the list of playing XI.
Reportedly, Rishab Pant’s selection was on the recommendation of the wives of other cricketers who have kids and have to flown down to England to accompany their husbands.
“Rishabh Pant is an excellent babysitter and India needs a player who is an all-rounder not only with respect to cricket but in respect to life in general. That’s why we have requested BCCI to make him the replacement of Dhawan,” said Ritika Sajdeh, wife of Rohit Sharma.
Not only Indian cricketers’ wives, but Tim Paine’s wife Bonnie has also welcomed BCCI’s decision of considering Pant as Dhawan’s replacement however she’s unhappy that Pant will be a part of playing XI as it would mean unavailability of her baby sitter for almost 10 hours.
