Interacting with students of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that judges are Concerned over the criticism of appointment of judges and “attacks” on the judiciary on social media, the CJI has stated that these should be controlled and strict action should be taken by the government.
Reportedly, the CJI has also ordered PM Modi to pass a bill in both the Houses of Parliament to criminalise the criticism of Judges. “Judges are above everyone and no one has the right to criticise what we say/do“, Said a SC judge with the condition of staying anonymous.
“Kabhi kabhi lagta hai apun hi bhagwan hai” said another SC Judge.
The details of the bill aren’t out yet, but the punishment of criticising a judge could be anywhere from lifetime imprisonment to 100 lashes in public.
