Shabbir Gurfan Was Forced Into Photography As A Kid: Barkha Dutt

Eminent journalist & Pakistan’s mouthpiece Barkha Dutt was recently at the receiving end of the #MeToo movement. The Kargil-fame journalist received some sleazy unsolicited pictures on her Whatsapp chat, which were aimed to offend her. But what followed next made more noise than this piece of news.

Barkha Dutt, who is seemingly an expert in detecting the nationalism via junk pictures, made an incorrect guess this time, which has now come back to bite her. After viewing the ‘junk’ pic, Barkha Dutt calculated it to be that of a nationalist and started blaming the entire Hindu community for the same. This stirred controversy on social media, especially because it was quite obvious that the junk was surgically primped up.

Today, it was revealed that the sender of the picture was Shabbir Gurfan, thus confirming that indeed it wasn’t a nationalist behind the episode.

After word started spreading about Shabbir Gurfan, many social media users started criticising Barkha Dutt for jumping to conclusions & sought an apology from her end. Many also requested her to take stringent actions against the perpetrator. However, to everybody’s surprise, Barkha Dutt came out in support of her abuser.

“I spoke to his classmates this morning. As a kid, Shabbir Gurfan was forced into photography. The kind of mental pressure his parents put him through has resulted in him doing so. After he was forced into photography, he is now forcing his photography on others,” said Barkha Dutt in a tweet.
