The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is an initiative by the Modi Government to provide affordable housing to the poor. The scheme which aims at providing a home to all by 2022, might turn out to be more than what meets the eye. Though people are appreciating the initiative they are missing out on the shortcomings and negatives. PM Modi is aiming to build more than 20 million affordable houses by 2022 which would mean that more than 80 million people shall get a roof over their head. However, it further implies that an additional 80 million people might have an increased probability of being homesick.
While providing housing for all, the Modi government has also been committed to create jobs and education opportunities, both of which require staying away from home for long durations, thus making people feel homesick. Another crucial but highly overlooked aspect is that the rural labour force after getting a pucca home will naturally start feeling homesick while working in the cities and may go back and resettle in their villages. The inevitable result is that cheap labour force shall gradually stop migrating to cities for work and urbanization shall come to a halt. If this trend continues till 2022, people from all age groups shall be engulfed by homesickness.
This is a clear indication that PM Modi’s home for all scheme has a major flaw and its disadvantages shall definitely overcome its benefits. However, so far the opposition has failed to bring out this point in the public eye and simply put, probably that’s why it’s been said that the reason behind Modi’s victory is not his hard work but an inefficient opposition. Previously, we have exposed how the government is trying to convert the country into a gas chamber by distributing free LPG connections and encouraging people to tap biogas from Nallah, the opposition has continued to fail to raise those points too.
