A parliamentary committee had asked former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan to appear before it and provide brief on the matter of mounting non-performing assets (NPAs). After ignoring several emails, the CBI was forced to escalate matters before the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) and as a result, was compelled to produce Raghuram at the ED’s office. However, in this process, someone else got dragged to the ED’s office instead.
Roadies fame, Raghuram was grilled by ED and CBI for over six hours at the ED’s office in connection with the issuance of NPAs worth more than lakhs of crores. Later, when Raghuram started hurling abuses, only then the CBI realised that they have been interrogating the wrong Raghuram from the past several hours. The confusion persisted only because Raghuram did not clarify that he wasn’t the right Raghuram that ED was probably looking for and instead used his limited knowledge to criticise the current government on the bad loans issue only to fall flat on his face in the process. Raghuram later challenged ED officials to do 50 pushups and a full split after which he was dragged out of the office. More news on this issue is awaited.
